CASTELLÓN CITY

Castellón is situated in the northern part of the Valencian Community, on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. It is the capital of one of the most mountainous provinces of the Spanish land, bathed by the sea along 120 kms of coasts, enjoying a privileged geographical territory and a nice climate all year long, between the sea and the mountains.

Castellón has a population of 177.924 inhabitants and its modest size let it offer its visitors a relaxed and quiet life, far from the noise of the big cities, but modern and with an enviable cultural and touristic offer. Furthermore, you can easily reach any place in Spain, Europe or the rest of the world thanks to its excellent communications.

Castellón

Getting to know the city is easy, we just need to lose ourselves in its streets and take a walk. The main areas of the city are the centre, where you’ll be able to city Plaza Mayor; Catellón Town Hall (XVII century); Santa Maria Cathedral (XII century); the bell tower El Fadrí; La Casa Abadía; the Library; the Central Market; the Principal Theatre, Plaza de Toros, and its many museums. At last, we have to mention the Grao, the coast area where you’ll be able to take long walks, enjoy the climate and visit the Harbour, the Planetarium and green areas..

And for the night, nothing better than to go for “tapas”. Most of the young people attend bars before  dinner. After, the party takes place in the pedestrian streets of the centre. During summer, everyone is moving towards the beach and its refreshment stalls. The “Fiestas de la Magdalena” are the festivities for the foundation of Castellón and they last for 9 days. Two of the most undisputed meeting points during these days are El Mesón del Vino and El Mesón de la Cerveza, where you’ll be able to enjoy Spanish tapas and the party attitude of the city as well.

Towns you have to visit: Morella (medieval city, completely fortified), Peñíscola (crowned by the spectacular castle of Papa Luna); Val D’Uxiò (well known for its navigable San José Grottos, where the visitors we’ll be able to enter into a world of fantasy, light and colour, formed by stalactites and stalagmites);  Benicàssim (known for its wonderful beaches, it is the place of one of the biggest International Independent Music Festival, FIB, and of a concentration of Harley Davidson motorbikes as well) and Villafamés (known for its wine museum).
